Why I Ran For Municipal Council: A Personal Reflection

May 18, 2025

Kingsville has always been home for me. I was born and raised here, and now I’m raising my own family in the same vibrant, close-knit community. I’ve watched our town grow and evolve over the years—and with that growth comes both opportunities and challenges. When the last municipal election came around, I felt a deep pull to step forward and try for a seat at the table where big decisions are made.

Simply put, the time felt right.

I ran for municipal council because I care deeply about Kingsville’s future. As someone who is raising young children, has retired parents living in town, and is part of the working professional community, I saw a gap in representation. I didn’t see someone like me—a younger woman, juggling the realities of career and caregiving—reflecting my family’s voice and values on council. I decided it was time to change that.

My platform focused on four core pillars:

1. Enhancing Recreational Opportunities
Recreation brings people together, promotes health and well-being, and builds community. Whether it’s sports, arts, or outdoor spaces, I believe everyone who lives in, or visits Kingsville should have access to inclusive, high-quality recreational experiences.

2. Making Kingsville a Destination
We have so much to offer—natural beauty, a charming downtown, great local businesses, and a welcoming community spirit. I want to help position Kingsville as a must-visit destination; while also ensuring it remains a fantastic place to live, work, and play year-round.

3. Planning for the Future
A strong town needs a clear, community-driven vision. I advocated for a comprehensive plan that doesn’t just react to change but anticipates it. From infrastructure to environmental sustainability to economic development, we need thoughtful strategies that prepare us for what’s ahead.

4. Developing the Surplus School Properties Responsibly
The future of our surplus school properties is a unique and critical opportunity. I called for a well-thought-out strategic plan to develop these spaces in a way that reflects community needs—whether that’s housing, recreation, education, or public use—ensuring we get it right for generations to come.

Running for council wasn’t an easy decision—it meant putting myself out there and embracing the responsibilities that come with leadership. But I did it because I believe in Kingsville and in the power of good governance to shape our collective future. I wanted to be part of those hard, but necessary, conversations that define who we are and who we want to be.

Thank you to everyone who supported me, shared their ideas, and continues to engage in building a better Kingsville. It’s a journey we’re on together.
